Up Close and Personal So who is Ted Wright?

Ted Wright was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas.

Ted attended Wichita State University where his major was Business Administration.

He married his high school sweetheart, Gwen. They remain happily married today. They are the parents of 3 children and enjoy 5 grandchildren

Ted served in the United States Army and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service while serving in the Republic of Vietnam with the First Field Force

His hobbies include playing softball, golf, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

ABOUT TED WRIGHT

Ted started out as a young and very green sales rep, working for the for the largest sales agency selling giftware items in the United States, located in Dallas, Texas. The company gave Ted the territory of West Texas. Sometimes there is something to be said for naivety! Little did Ted know this was a territory which no one wanted because of it’s size and travel that was involved. It also was the least producing territory the company had to offer. Five years later the territory of West Texas had turned into a gold mine! Ted was rewarded for his efforts by being given the territory of Dallas/Ft. Worth. After two years sales records were set in this territory. At this point Ted had become recognized as someone who could go into a territory and turn it around into a dollar producing entity, and improve on ones that were already thought to be doing well. Ted was offered the opportunity to move from Dallas to Kansas City to open up and manage a brand new territory for the agency. The new position included managing four sales people in four states. This also proved to be successful venture. Eventually the agency Ted worked for decided they did not want to be responsible for that many states and decided to pull back to the TOLA (Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas) area only. Ted was offered a high ranking position in the agency, but turned it down and decided to stay in Kansas City, because he did not want to uproot his kids again. In 1982 Ted opened his own sales agency, Ted Wright and Associates. Twenty two years later, Ted Wright and Associates, Inc., continues to cover the MINK (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) states with sales representatives living in areas to cover those states.


To quote Ted, “I believe everyone is given a talent by God. I cannot operate on hearts, I cannot build dams, heck, I can’t even build a birdhouse! But I do believe I have been given the talent of salesmanship which has allowed me to have one of the best sales agencies in the United States today.” Ted believes the key ingredients to being successful are relatively simple, but difficult for other agencies to grasp. “I do not want to be the largest in number of reps, which I could have easily done because of my prior experience and knowledge, but I am more interested in quality of sales reps than quantity. Quality salespeople are the fuel that drives this company, not the number of salespeople. I simply want to represent the finest lines available that are unique and quality driven. I want to work with quality people of integrity and character.”

In my opinion and from observation it is rare today for someone to be doing something as long as I have without burnout! Quite the contrary - I love my job! I get up every morning and am excited to get into my office or out to see a customer. Once the day starts, the curtain goes back, the lights go on, and I am instantly on stage. I never have the same audience daily. Each day is a new experience, and that is the force that keeps me excited about doing what I do.
